Help us collect donations for Prevention Point Philadelphia!

As some of you have seen on your way to the subway or shopping on Broad Street, the opioid crisis is hitting close to home, right at Broad and Snyder. There are ways you can help those affected by this horrible epidemic. One is through a donation to Prevention Point! For those of you unfamiliar with Prevention Point, it is a local organization dedicated to ‘harm reduction’ – which aims to reduce the harm associated with drug use in people unable or unwilling to stop.  Prevention Point offers many free resources to those in need, such as a syringe exchange program (which helps prevent the spread of HIV and Hepatitis), HIV/HCV testing, medical clinics, legal clinics, and even shelter and meals. Prevention Point also provides overdose reversal training to teach organizations, providers, and community members how to properly use Narcan to save lives. For cities such as Philadelphia, organizations like Prevention Point play an important role by serving some of the most vulnerable members of society.  Numerous medical and professional organizations have studied syringe exchange and concluded that it is a highly effective way to prevent the spread of HIV and does not encourage drug use. It also creates a point of contact to link people who use drugs and sex workers with treatment, medical care, legal advocacy, housing, job training and other social services. For our annual charitable giving, we will be collecting physical items from the list below, as well as monetary donations, which will be given to Prevention Point in January.  A donation box will be located in the main lobby of the East Passyunk Crossing Recreation Center on the corner of 11th and Mifflin.
